The TRX trail database currently covers public trail systems in the United States. OHV trails are found in areas managed by the National Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management and state offices. Yes. The TRX and TR products include street and trail data to provide turn by turn navigation on streets and on trails. Get spoken turn-by-turn instructions on the street to a trailhead and then right onto the trail. The TRX GPS software is designed to get you to the trail, on the trail and back home safely. You can also search for and navigate to more than 6 million pre-loaded points of interest or any address you enter.
A TRX and TR navigators contain 2D and 3D off-road maps and topography/elevation in addition to more than 115,000 preloaded trails across the entire United States. They also features a complete set of street maps with points of interest which allow turn-by-turn navigation from anywhere in the country and can be used to easily navigate to any trailhead for an off-road adventure.
The TRX and TR products have built-in Wi-Fi, which can be used to connect to TRXTrailhead.com to upload a wide range of data from your trip – including waypoints, completed routes, photos, videos and personal tracks. Sharing that data on your own social media pages is also made easy. In addition, the TRX7 uses an Android operating system and can play music, give access to the web and other features when a data connection is available.
No, software and content updates (maps, routes, points of interest) are included at no additional charge. TRX map updates include the detailed topo basemap with full street network in addition to the TRX OHV trail database. Magellan is dedicated to providing support to TRX owners for the life of the device.
The TRX and TR products are preloaded with the North American Topo basemap and the TRX OHV trail database. There are no subscriptions to use the maps or GPS. Magellan does offer an optional subscription for satellite imagery. The DigitalGlobe Satellite Imagery subscription is $30 per year.
There is no set schedule for software and map updates, but we are constantly working to investigate areas to improve the software and increase our OHV trail coverage. Owners are notified over Wi-Fi if a software or map update is available.
Map updates are done over Wi-Fi, you do not need to connect to a computer. Connect to Wi-Fi and the TRX software will tell you if an update is available and walk you through a quick download and installation process.
Each Magellan TRX and TR device unit has an internal lithium ion battery. The battery life on the TRX7 and TRX7CS is 4-6 hours. The battery life on the TR5 and TR7 is 1 hour. Battery life estimates are based on a full charge and managing the battery usage by adjusting screen brightness and using the suspend mode to put the screen to sleep. All our trail navigators are designed to operate on external power and ship with a cigarette lighter power cable.
TRX products are rated IP67, which means they are protected from dust and capable of withstanding water immersion down to 1 meter for 30 minutes. They are impact resistant to drops from 1m onto concrete.
TR products are less rugged than the TRX products, and they are designed to be used in a protected environment such as an enclosed vehicle cab. TR products are not dust proof and are designed for use in enclosed vehicles.
