Drivers Steer Clear of Jams with Real-Time Traffic for Magellan RoadMate 2200T and CrossoverGPS
Las Vegas, NV (January 7, 2007) Magellan®, creators of the Hertz® NeverLost® and a leading global innovator of outdoor and vehicle navigation solutions, debuts its Magellan TrafficKit™ to provide optional real-time traffic services for the Magellan RoadMate™ 2200T and CrossoverGPS™ at CES booth # 35832 South Hall the products. The Magellan TrafficKit is the first completely integrated real-time traffic solution for a portable navigation device that attaches as a cradle with a simple click — so customers don’t have to fuss with placement of an antenna wires. Available at US $99, the TrafficKit helps drivers avoid traffic delays with incident alerts and rerouting so they get to their destination faster.
“As the first to offer NAVTEQ® real-time traffic services via NAVTEQ Traffic RDS (Radio Data System) in North America, Magellan understands the importance of offering our customers the highest level of convenience and flexibility,” said Christian Bubenheim, vice president of product marketing for Magellan consumer products. “Providing real-time traffic for the Magellan RoadMate 2200T and the CrossoverGPS is a continued effort to deliver the best possible user experience across our entire product line.”
The small, convenient TrafficKit integrates a real-time traffic receiver and FM antenna, and provides additional ports for connectivity, much like a mini docking station. Using FM frequencies, the Magellan TrafficKit wirelessly transmits comprehensive NAVTEQ traffic data on a continuous basis. NAVTEQ gathers data from multiple, reliable sources, including commercial traffic sources, government departments of transportation, police and emergency services, road sensors, cameras and airborne reports. The Magellan TrafficKit receiver processes the real-time traffic information and displays icons on the Magellan GPS map screen to show traffic jams and conditions that impede the normal flow of traffic, such as lane reductions, road construction and accidents. Drivers can learn details about each by touching the associated icon. Drivers can also choose to receive all or select types of alerts and can choose whether or not they are automatically rerouted when a faster alternative route is available.
The Magellan TrafficKit includes three months of traffic service. The renewal fee for a yearly subscription is US $59.99. The Magellan CrossoverGPS (US $549) is the world’s first rugged, IPX-4-waterproof device designed to provide navigation for both driving and outdoor adventures. A cross between two products, the Magellan CrossoverGPS comes ready out-of-the-box to deliver a superior car navigation experience, plus the functionality of handheld GPS receivers for the outdoors with preloaded topography maps. The Magellan RoadMate 2200T (US $499) is the first rugged, expandable, advanced IPX-4 waterproof vehicle nav system that is upgradeable to provide outdoor navigation capabilities for hiking, off-road excursions and more.
