Thales Donates Magellan® GPS Products and $20,000 in Cash to Support KOA Care Camps for Children with Cancer
Magellan Brand and KOA Team to Help Kids with Cancer Enjoy Camping and the Outdoors
Santa Clara, Calif. (March 14, 2006) Kampgrounds of America's (KOA) Care Camps will have a little extra help from the Magellan brand of GPS products this year as they give children with cancer, and their families, the opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreation and camping in medically staffed environments. With a $20,000 corporate donation and $12,000 of its Magellan GPS navigation products to KOA, Thales is putting into action its corporate donations program, which focuses on the outdoor education and experiences of children. Product donations include Magellan eXploristTM handheld GPS receivers, Magellan MapSend® software and Magellan RoadMateTM portable vehicle navigation systems.
"We focus much of our corporate giving on children's outdoor education because we recognize that they are the future of GPS innovation and the marketplace," said Amanda Higgins, senior director of corporate communications for Thales' navigation business, which includes the Magellan brand. "We're passionate about the outdoor activities our customers enjoy, and know that most people develop their passion for the outdoors through childhood experiences. It so happens that these children need some extra help enjoying the outdoors, and we're privileged to be associated with such a great organization and to help make the outdoors accessible for them."
KOA Care Camps is a non-profit organization that, in conjunction with the KOA system of campgrounds throughout the United States and Canada, provides a memorable camping experience for children and families affected by cancer. There are currently 37 Care Camps throughout the United States and Canada, each fully equipped with on-site medical facilities, medical professionals and specially trained counselors - almost all of whom are volunteers.
"With the cost of each child attending Care Camp exceeding $2,500, the gift from Magellan provides much needed assistance in jumpstarting our annual fundraising campaign," said Jim Rogers, President & CEO of Kampgrounds of America. "We're sure that the kids who benefit will be extremely grateful as we are at KOA. The additional donation of Magellan products has already helped spur KOA member registration for our 'Come Camp With Us Day' fundraiser, particularly because the navigation products are such perfect tools to enhance our members' camping and RV adventures."
To further assist KOA in funding its Care Camps, Magellan GPS products were provided as an incentive to KOA members to register for KOA's "Come Camp with Us Day," which serves as the major fundraiser for the camps. Each week leading up to the event on May 12, one prize will be awarded to a KOA member who registers for "Come Camp with Us Day." Prize donations include seven Magellan eXplorist XL handheld GPS receivers combined with Magellan MapSend Topo 3D USA software, and seven Magellan RoadMate 800 portable vehicle navigation systems.
