Hertz® and Magellan® Introduce Popular Hertz NeverLost® - Now Portable - to European Drivers
Hertz Customers in Europe Now Have Access to the Newest Version of the Most Successful Rental Navigation System in the U.S., Plus Exclusive Features
London and Santa Clara, Calif. (October 19, 2005) Hertz Corporation and Thales' navigation business today announced the European introduction of Hertz NeverLost Portable powered by Magellan. The vehicle navigation system, a customized version of the Magellan RoadMateTM 760, is available to Hertz customers starting this month in five countries, including France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands. The system will be rolled out in a total of 27 countries throughout 2006.
"Our joint venture with Hertz in the U.S. has been an unqualified success for more than six years -- for Hertz, for the Magellan brand, and especially for travelers," said Henry Gaillard, chief executive officer of Thales' navigation business. "The Hertz NeverLost program enjoys tremendous success because of the great rental experience and the quality of the navigation solution. We look forward to building on that success by partnering with Hertz in Europe and giving more travelers the chance to experience the freedom of first-class portable GPS navigation."
"Hertz Neverlost is a name synonymous with satellite navigation systems in the United States and we have worked hard to develop a system that uses the same ground-breaking technology, but offers a system unique to the European market," said Michel Taride, president of Hertz Europe. "With 12 languages and cross-border capacity, all easily accessible in one stylish unit, our customers can be confident that HertzNeverlost is a truly European solution designed to take account of the specific needs of European travellers."
Based on the market-leading, award-winning Magellan RoadMate 700, the color, touch-screen Hertz NeverLost Portable delivers convenient navigation capabilities that allow drivers to find destinations quickly, detour around traffic, route to multiple destinations and more.
Hertz NeverLost Portable is the only rental navigation system that offers the Magellan SayWhereTM technology, an industry-first text-to-speech option that announces street names for upcoming maneuvers. The system also provides significantly easier access to 12 languages than competitive rental systems, and easier access to booking, which can be done by phone or online.
WAAS/EGNOS-enabled for greater position and navigation accuracy, Hertz NeverLost Portable lets travelers easily access turn-by-turn directions to the nearest conveniences just by touching the point-of-interest icon on the screen. Hertz customers can even search restaurants by cuisine.
Hertz NeverLost Portable is also the only rental navigation system to provide:
Automatic volume control so it can be heard above wind and traffic noise when the vehicle reaches higher speeds.
QuickSpell feature for easy data entry.
A larger and brighter, more clear display for greater visibility than competing systems.
Online booking through the Hertz website. A highly user-friendly and tested solution based on the expertise and experience of the Magellan brand in vehicle navigation solutions.
