Magellan RoadMate 700 Receives PC Magazine's 'Editor's Choice Award'
Santa Clara, California (June 15, 2004) The editors of PC Magazine have chosen a hands-down favorite in their recent review of the in-car GPS category. The Magellan® RoadMateTM 700, a portable turn-by-turn vehicle navigation system, is recognized as an "Editors' Choice Award" recipient in the publication's May 18, 2004 issue. Magellan RoadMate received kudos for design, accuracy and ease of use.
The PC Magazine article states, "The Magellan RoadMate 700 is an effective alternative to factory in-car solutions, with the added benefit of portability." The article also states, "From the time you turn on the system until you receive your first clear voice prompts with turn instructions, you never doubt which choices to make, nor that you will reach your destination."
The best-selling Magellan RoadMate series was introduced in late 2003. Consumers, retailers and the media have since heralded the system for its unrivaled ease of use, reliability and convenience. The Magellan RoadMate 700 (MSRP $1,299 US) comes fully loaded with detailed, updated maps of the United States and major metropolitan areas of Canada. It also delivers a large, clearly visible high-resolution color touch screen, turn-by-turn, voice-prompted guidance and text directions. The product ships with a convenient windshield mount, AC adaptor and cigarette lighter adaptor.
"It's an honor to receive accolades for the Magellan RoadMate 700 from a highly respected publication such as PC Magazine," said Christian Bubenheim, senior director of worldwide consumer marketing for Thales' navigation business. "Since the introduction of the Magellan RoadMate, consumers have raved about the very same features recognized by the editors of PC Magazine. We've always known that the product is unparalleled in performance and value, and now it's great to get this validation from the media, as well."
The compact, lightweight and portable Magellan RoadMate 700, and its counterpart, the Magellan RoadMate 500 Plus (MSRP $999 US), offer simple and affordable yet fully featured street navigation based on the technology the company used to develop the proven Hertz NeverLostÒ system. The Magellan RoadMate is designed for fast and easy setup, without professional installation, and allows any driver - from the road warrior to the soccer mom to the vacation traveler - to gain timesaving efficiency and peace of mind.
The Magellan RoadMate 700 was the first system in its category to deliver a built-in map complete with the United States and major metropolitan areas in Canada. It provides fast, reliable guidance from an internal hard drive to nearly every address in the country. The Magellan RoadMate 500 Plus offers the same benefits and features of the 700 except it uses a 256-megabyte compact flash card for map storage, providing twice the memory capacity than that of competitors' products so users can select and save large areas of detailed map data from the supplied mapping software.
Drivers can use the touch screen or keypad to obtain a route in one of three ways: from their personal address book, which stores up to 100 frequently visited destinations; by entering a street address; or by choosing a destination from the database of more than two million points of interest. In addition, the Magellan RoadMate automatically recalculates a route after a missed turn.
