Magellan and Eurovox Combine to Develop Advanced, Satellite-Based Vehicle Navigation Products for OEM, OEI and Consumer Automotive Markets

Deal will enable Eurovox to design, manufacture and sell vehicle navigation products, based on Magellan's turn-by-turn guidance technology, in Australia and New Zealand

Santa Clara, CA   (April 28, 1999) Eurovox Pty. Ltd., the leading Australian supplier of automotive audio entertainment systems to Australia''s auto manufacturers, and California-based Magellan Corp., a satellite navigation and communications subsidiary of Orbital Sciences Corporation (NYSE: ORB), announced their agreement to design, develop and manufacture advanced, satellite-aided, in-vehicle navigation systems for markets in Australia and New Zealand.

Magellan will license its vehicle navigation technology to Eurovox. Under a separate technical support and services agreement, Eurovox will develop navigation equipment for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Original Equipment Importers (OIM), as well as commercial and consumer applications. Further details of the agreement were not released.

The products to be developed will use Magellan''s latest turn-by-turn vehicle navigation and information technology, incorporating satellite positioning, patented inertial navigation capability and digital map-matching to provide voice- and visually-prompted driving instructions. The same technology is being used in the recently announced Magellan-Hertz Corporation joint venture to expand the Hertz NeverLostR vehicle navigation service, and in Magellan''s own 750NAVTM consumer aftermarket product, according to Magellan President and CEO John Huyett.

"Eurovox has earned its leadership position in automotive electronics and audio systems through an unwavering dedication to quality design and manufacturing. By partnering with Eurovox, Magellan now has the opportunity to participate in one of the world''s fastest growing regional automotive markets," Huyett said.

"This agreement between Eurovox and Magellan is a fantastic opportunity for both companies. The resources and technology that have placed both Eurovox and Magellan at the head of their respective markets will now provide a platform for future developments that will shape in-vehicle information systems into the 21st Century," was Eurovox Managing Director Paul Miller''s response.

"As the leading OE supplier of audio equipment in Australia, Eurovox will now be able to provide the Australian automotive market with the very latest in mobile information systems," Miller added.
