Question 3: How many satellites fixes are necessary to know position?
 
Answer: Theoretically: three; Practically: Four
 
 
Question 4: How does the GPS receiver calculate its position?
 
Answer: By knowing the satellites position and the time the radio message was sent the GPS receiver can divide the length of time the signal took to reach the receiver by the speed of light to determine the distance away from the satellite. Three distances tell the GPS where it is. Since there is a level of error inherent to the calculations we use four fixes to give us an acceptable level of accuracy.

Eligibility: Open only to U.S. and CANADA residents 18 years of age or older at the time of entry. General: The winners will be notified within ten (10) days of the drawing date through e-mail or phone. If the winners enter an incorrect email address or phone number, their eligibility to the Prize will be voided and sponsor may select other winners by a random drawing.
