Here are the winning stories submitted during the Magellan RoadMate 3065 Commuter Contest.

This happens all the time!

We were on New York's Belt Parkway when we wound up following an authentic 1960's "Love Bug" VW Beetle.

As we followed the Bug onto a curving off-ramp, we were suddenly confronted with what seemed a horrible scene. The Beetle overran the turn and flipped right onto its roof on the grass.

As we watched, not knowing what to do, two long-haired hippie types crawled out the side windows. We rushed up to them to offer aid and see if they were okay, when to our astonishment, they simply flipped the Beetle back onto its wheels and proceeded to get back in.

"Are you hurt?" we asked. "Do you need help?" "Nah", said one of the longhairs, smiling at us as he gunned the engine. "This happens all the time!"

But the heated discussions between our judges made it very clear we had to expand the winner's circle. We pulled some strings and rustled up a couple more units to honor some others that got high votes. Carol made our hearts all warm with her story of how her commute led a husband to her. We'll send her a 3065 Commuter with that lifetime traffic service to get her around congestion and back home to her love!

Cute Honda girl

I met my husband 5 years ago on my commute to work. We both lived in the same building and everyday I would see his car either in front of me or behind me coming out of our condo complex. It must have been 5 or 6 months before I actually realized he was a neighbor in the same building. Eventually, he would stick his hand out the car window or wave at me from his rearview mirror to say "hello". I did notice he was kinda cute, so I made sure to look good every morning, and found myself making sure I left the apartment at exactly 8:15am every morning so that we would "bump into each other" on the way out of the complex. Unfortunately, these morning drives were the only times I ever saw him, so we never actually spoke. Then one day, I never saw him again. He had moved.

About a year later I was at a local coffee shop and this guy comes over and asked if I ever drove a red Honda CRV and lived in the KAMAR complex. Turns out he had bought a place about 5 miles away, but he still remembered the "cute Honda girl" he would see every morning on his commute to work. We've been together ever since.

And we even got some international fun. We have a RoadMate 3065 for Harry who had a run-in with a possessive monkey on a vacation in India!

Monkey clinging on to our luggage

In 1998 while traveling in India, we were going from a place known as Pushkar to Jaipur in the state of Rajasthan [83 miles]. All along the way we heard some noise on the roof but did not bother checking it until we reached our destination. On getting out of the car we were shocked to notice a monkey clinging on to our luggage that had managed to hold on all this way. The funny part was that now he did not want to get off the luggage and growled at us when we approached our luggage, as if he was the new owner! With great effort we finally got him off the car with a bribe of bananas!
