Embedded Software Engineer

The Position

Systems Software Engineer is a position that will report to the Senior Director of Systems Engineering and be responsible for evaluation, developing and integrating platform software associated with development of Portable Navigation Systems, Portable Location Device products as well as other Location Based solutions.

Systems Software is defined to include:

  • Operating Systems such as the various flavors of Embedded Linux, WINCE, and Android
  • RTOSes such as uC/OS, ThreadX, etc.
  • Boot loaders
  • Utilities

The successful candidate will support and/or lead Systems Software development and integration activities throughout the entire product lifecycle, including:

  • Requirements analysis as well as translating product requirements into engineering specifications
  • Interface definition (ICDs & APIs)
  • Design reviews
  • Documentation
  • Systems software system test & integration, and support.

The Candidate

The candidate will be a seasoned software engineer with strong experience in the field of Portable Navigation System, direct knowledge of GPS/GNSS systems and strong background in software development. The candidate must have 3+ years of hands-on software development experience on ARM based embedded portable devices, excellent C programming skills, experience with ARM assembly and/or scripting languages is a plus, knowledge and experience with WinCE/Linux device drivers, file systems and kernel, strong debugging skills, experience with WinCE/Linux kernel debug tools and JTAG is preferred, experience using SVN or git for development.

The candidate must have good written and oral communication skills, the ability to clearly present technical information to peers, subordinates and customers.

He/she must be a self-starter and exhibit the type of drive, determination, energy level and team player attitude required to successfully carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position in a highly charged, success oriented, profit minded environment.

Education and Experience

The preferred candidate will possess an advanced degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline, and at least 3-5 years software development experience on embedded systems, 2 years development experience on Android/Linux. Direct experience with portable navigation systems is considered a definite plus but not required.
